Yikes, there are a lot of potato bugs.....Anyone else? Define potato bugs . For some people, these are pillbugs or roly-polies, for others, they're jerusalem crickets, and for others they're colorado potato beetles. Common names once again prove to be worthless for communication. Common names once again prove to be worthless for communication. Sheesh! Do you have to be so rude? FYI, they are Colorado Potato Beetles. There...satisfied? Rude?? It was not a personal attack on you, but a comment on how once again (just like in the daddy-longlegs thread) everyone gets hopelessly confused when a slew of different animals all have the same common names . Of the three animals involved, the one that is *least* commonly called a potato bug is the one you happen to have, and if I hadn't asked, it's likely you would have had a dozen responses from people with pillbug problems before anyone realized they were talking about an entirely different beast. He's not being rude, he's a scientist and blunt.  Generally speaking, common names are useless.  Did you read his sig?  We're very lucky to have him around rec.gardens.
