I'm just about to take ownership of a '97 Corolla SD auto w/air and power stearing. I know virtually nothing about cars, but I'm reasonably technically inclined (tool and die maker apprentice). Perhaps you guys can recommend a good book so I can figure ou how to get another 135K out of this machine? Nothing major I suppose, but I'm willling to do research and tinker here and there to save headaches down the road. Any thoughts or am I out of my league? Regards, Robin

If previous owner followed the book on maintenance you might get your 135k miles more. �The Chilton or Haynes 412 books are ok. �Changing oil and filter (avoid FRAM) every 3k miles and antifreeze ever 2 years and trans fluid every year help. Easy to do yourself.

Like Wolfgang said. The key to a car's longevity is REGULAR and PROPER MAINTENANCE...and avoidance of incompetent repair shops/dealerships or mechanics! Completely clean the engine and engine bay so you can see what condition everything is in, spot currrent fluid leaks
